After compliments,
With reference to my letter No. 873 dated 14th
December 1938. I nave been informed by Shaikh Knalid bin
Ahmed tnat Muhammad bin Sarwash nan lived in Daba, he went
to Shaikh Knalid during the time he was: in Kalba am asked
for permission to live with his family in Kalba. When he was
granted permission he told Snaikh Knalid tnat ne was afraid
to go to Daba alone lest some one might interfere with him.
Shaikh Knalid then sent one of his men with him, and he went
and returnee to Kalba safely. That was in tne summer season.
When shaikh Khalid left Kalba for f Ajman in October 1938,
Muhammad bin Sarwash went to Shaikh Humaid bin Abdulla,
nephew of Shaikh hnalin , who was officiating for him in
conducting the affairs of kalba. Ke told him that he had a
Baluchi master who owns naif share of nis daughter, and tnat
his master had come to Kalba in tnat connection. Muhammad
bin Sarwash requested Shaikh Humaid to pay his master Rs. 60
for his snare in the girl and undertook to repay tne amount
within two years, but Shaikh Humaid assured him that as long
as he is in Kalba he is safe and need not fear any one. His
master returned back. He ana his family are now in Kalba. I
enclose herewith a letter from Shaikh Khalia in reply to my

Agent (then 'Abd al-Razzaq Razuqi) in Sharjah to assess the validity of slaves' claims. The replies from the Sharjah Agent, in English and Arabic, are included in the file.
Besides manumission applications, the file also includes a small number of other items related to the slave trade, including a Government of Bahrain notice (in English and Arabic) on the proclamation of the Governor-General of India (folio 169); statements of debts and balances of accounts for indebted divers (e.g. folios 175-76, 188-89, 193-94, 248-49); allegations of slave trading in Kalba which incur the displeasure of the Political Resident A senior ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul General) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Residency. , Lieutenant-Colonel Trenchard Craven Fowle (folios 264, 270, 292); and an unclaimed manumission certificate (folio 354).
