d&nts, suspected of being engaged in the slave-trade, they may detain and search
them aud in case of their finding that any of the vessels aforesaid have violated
this engagement, by the exportation of slaves from the cosats of Africa or else
where, upon any pretext whatsoever, they (the Government cruisers) shall seize
and confiscate the same.” ,
And whereas on the first day of May, in the said year one thousand eight
hundred and forty-seven, an engagement was also concluded between Major S.
Hennell on behalf of Her Majesty and Abdool Azeez bin Rashid, Shaik Egman,
whereby it was agreed as follows :—
“ I, Abdool Azeez bin Rashid, Shaik of Egman, with the view to strengthen
the bonds of friendship existing between me and the British Government, do
hereby engage to prohibit the exportation of slaves from the coast of Africa and
elsewhere on board of my vessels and those belonging to my subjects or depen
dants, such prohibition to take effect from the last day Mohurrum, A. H. 1264
(or 10th December A. D. 1847).
“ And I do further consent that whenever the cruisers of the British Govern
ment fall in with any of my vessels, or those belonging to my subjects or
dependants suspected of being engaged in the slave-trade, they may detain and
search them ; and in case of their finding that any of the vessels aforesaid have
violated this engagement, by the exportation of slaves from the coasts of
Africa or elsewhere,upon any pretext whatsoever, they (the Government ertiiserj*)
shall seize and confiscate the same.”
And whereas on the said firfct day of May, an engagement was concluded by
the said Major S. Hennell on behalf of Her Majesty and Shaik Abdullah bin Rashid,
iShaik of Amulgavine, whereby it was agreed as follows
“ I, Abdullah bin Rashid, Shaik of Amulgavine, with a view to strengthen the

This part relates to the Government of India's decision to issue a revised edition of Aitchison's Treaties (full title: A Collection of Treaties, Engagements and Sanads Relating to India and Neighbouring Countries ), with revised narratives for each geographical area covered, incorporating the principal events that have occurred since the publication of the previous edition in 1909.
The part contains two copies of proofs for the following revised narratives: Treaties and Engagements Relating to the Arab Principalities in the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. (ff 305-328 and ff 617-640) and Treaties and Engagements Relating to Oman (Muscat) (ff 406-422 and ff 641-657). Also included are copies of related treaties, agreements, and correspondence for the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. (ff 329-405 and ff 540-616) and Oman sections (ff 423-477 and ff 485-539), which cover the periods 1806-1927 and 1798-1928 respectively.
The proofs are accompanied by interdepartmental correspondence discussing the contents of the narratives, and the possibility of amendments and additions being made, such as for the parts entitled 'The Wahabis and Nejd' and 'Kuwait' in the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. section. In addition, the correspondence discusses the question of whether to include recently concluded agreements with Mohammerah [Khorramshahr] and Kuwait in the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. section.
