Kaohan^e Control : P>rsien gulf
I enclose e draft reply to the letter of the 26th^ 7 .r
April frora the Jersian^ Gulf and have incorporated our '
oomprehensive proposals for the final taking over of exchange
control from India.
There is a degree of urgency to get this off since
the time is drawing near when the Reserve Bank of India will
cease to act as well for Pakistan and we do not know with.which
Dominion the Gulf territories will then have closer ties. Indie j
are anxious to be relieved of all remaining responsibility for
exchange control in the Gulf and we are anxious to see the new
arrangements under way and given a fair trial before the State
Bank of Pakistan begin to operate separately on the 30 th June. 'V
I should be grateful therefore if the draft could be given
priority
I am sending copies to Stewart and also to Harrison
at the Gomaonwealth Relations Office, since India will be
concerned.
India.
On hearing from you that you agree, we will advise
Tours sincerely,
