I beg to state that I received a letter No.75 dated 17th
October 1952 from the Political Agent A mid-ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Agency. , Muscat, through Tsa ben
Morad and his wife Zarook to the effect that they have a
daughter named Maryam and a son named Yusuf and that they were
kidnapped from Makrara two years ago, that the girl was at
Ajman and that I should take steps for her recoverey. T endeavours-
ed much and took the necessary steps for tracing the girl in
A.lman and found her in the house of an Arab. With the assistance
of the Shaikh of A.lrnan, I recovered the girl and handed her to
her parents. I sent them by downward slow mail to the Political

Agent, Muscat, with a letter from me Fo.597 dated 30th November
1955. I state this for your information. The girl’s statement
is enclosed. I could not trace the boy, Yusuf, at A.lman, Sharsah
or Debai. It appears that he is in Batinah and^/did not come to
the Oman Coast.
Statement m*ade by Maryam bent Isa ben Morad Baluch aged
about 14 yearsj Orginally from Bahu of Biyaban. Dated 7th Rabi II
1341 (=57th November 1955).
In the month of Ra.lab 1339 (March 1951) I, my parents and
brothers left our town, Bahu, with the intention of proceeding
to Charbar. We arrived near Charbar after sunset and halted near
a well. A man named Qader-Bakhsh who ivas accompanied by 10 men
care and stopped near the well. A quarter of the night had
passed when they attacked us, arrested me with my brother, Yusuf,
took us to the sea shore and put us in a boat which sailed for
Batinah and Wodam. I was sold to a man of Batinah who brought me
to A1man and sold me to a man named Naser ben Hashed two years
ago. In the month of H a bi II, 1341 (=Novr-Decemb 0 r 55) a
representative of the Government Agejit game and recovered me
from Naser’s house and brought me to the Residency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, established in the provinces and regions considered part of, or under the influence of, British India. Agent at Debai
who handed me to my parents. I am very grateful for the favours
of the High British Government and to the Agent for rescuing me
from the hands of the Arabs.

The cases discussed touch upon British attempts to identify and recover Baluchis reportedly taken and transported to the Trucial Coast A name used by Britain from the nineteenth century to 1971 to refer to the present-day United Arab Emirates. , repatriation measures, the terms of punishment for traders/kidnappers, and the expenses incurred at offering protection for recovered slaves.

Of particular interest in the file are reports on the slave trade between Baluchistan and the Gulf, 1923/24 (folios 98-114); correspondence between the native agent Non-British agents affiliated with the British Government. at Sharjah and the Trucial Coast A name used by Britain from the nineteenth century to 1971 to refer to the present-day United Arab Emirates. shaikhs on slave trade (e.g. folios 361-362); and the Hindu community of Dubai’s efforts to take action against the trade of Hindu boys from Karachi (folio 364).
