The neoeasity for a Clayton apparatus/brought forward by
the Persian sanitary counoil t and the provision thereof being
borne equally by the Honi© and Indian Governments was apparently
first brought forward in September 1907. Captain Williams
I.M.S. then Residency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, established in the provinces and regions considered part of, or under the influence of, British India. Surgeon, was sent to Bombay to report and
select suitable apparatus. He suggested a "C 1 * type Clayton.
He however pointed out that the machine had to bo mounted on
a barge and could not be worked if there was any sea on# or

As Mohammerah was only SO miles diotrnt from Basrah where
a large Lazaret existed,and where facilities were apparently
about to be provided,and as Muscat was aj&p&rsHily a coapabatlv©

ships entering the gulf he proposed the apparatus being station
ed at Muscat, (b)
The apparatus was bought from tho Clayton Fire Extinguishing
and Ventilating Company at a total cost of £631/15/8 and
arrived in Muscat in September 1906 (c£.
A specification of the machine as per original invoice is
attached.
After considerable negotiations with many firms#a ba*g© for
the machine was built locally in Buchire by one Ostad Abdullah
at a cost of Rs 3700 £d),
Although I oan find no written reason for the transfer tne
apparatus was sent to Bushlre arriving there In September 1909.
