ft ICp'L-
My Lord,
With reference to my despatch ITo. 112 of
February 25th last, in which I submitted the draft of a
note on the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. Quarantine service which l pro
posed to present to the Persian Government, I have the
honour to acknowledge the receipt of telegram Fo. 146
and Despatch ITo. 161 in which approval of the proposed
\
action is given* I now have the honour to inform Your
Lordship that on May 26th last I received a telegram
from His Majesty’s Resident in the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. informing
me that the Persian Government had ordered the Customs
Administration to stop payment of its share of the expenses
of the Quarantine service, which in future would be settled
direct by the Central Government. Well knowing that this
would lead to the breakdown of the service, at a moment too
when there was plague in Mesopotamia and at Mohammerah, I
made, in the absence of a Cabinet, vigorous representations
to sardar Leader of a tribe or a polity; also refers to a military rank or title given to a commander of an army or division. sepah and he immediately telegraphed to Bushire
countermanding the instructions. In view of this it seems
likely that the whole question of our Quarantine Administra
tion will be raised by the Persian Government in the near
future, and X therefore propose to delay presenting the
Hote to which I have referred above, until it does so*
I have, etc.,
(Sgd.) P1RCY LORAIES.
Right Honourable
The Sari of Balfour, K.G., O.M.,
His Majesty’s Acting Principal
Secretary of state for Foreign Affairs.
