This map shows the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. and the countries surrounding it. The main regions and human settlements and roads are clearly designated on the Arabian Peninsula, while the coastal strip of Persia [Iran] includes less detail. An etching of Muscat harbour and a plan of Muscat and Matrah frame the map. Handwritten notes in red ink at various locations indicate changed political circumstances, allegiances or borders from when the map was first printed. Oman is the region on the map with the most extensive detail.
