Translation of a telegram from Miem S*BH> Khan, to His Royal Highness the heir apparent,-.
dated the Kind June 1871.
After compliments, -Alarming accoimts are ^ received through the
TWeisri Representatives respecting the turbulent spirit of the Mahomedan
population of Tabreez, merchants, &c. Their turbulence is to such an extent
that not only the Armenian community, but much higher parties feel alarmed
for their safety. . ^ 1
The execution of Meshedi Bakir, which has taken place by Your Royal
HieWs’s order and the advice of the Ameen-i-Lashkar &c whether just ot
unfust has now taken place and is finished. But if, God forbid anything
unpleasant should happen to the Armenians, I beg to state distinct y to Your
unpleasan it will be attended with the most serious results, and the
Sfeof&z'vvill te consumed by the fire of His Majesty’s anger. Y„ w
Roval Hio-lmess will therefore, through your gracious foresight and experience,
put an immediate stop to all causes for such apprehension.
Respecting the complaint made by the Mahomedans, an inquiry will take
place and an equitable arrangement having been made by royal command
at Teheran, Your Royal Highness will he informed of the same.

Letter and Enclosures to HM Secretary of State for India, dated 10 October 1871, concerning the protection of Christians in Persia, following the execution of a Muslim at Tabreez (Tabriz) for the murder of an Armenian Christian.

British officials intervened following alleged attempts by local officials to stir up ill feeling amongst Muslims against Armenians, following which the Persian Government issued a guarantee that Christians in Persia would receive protection against violence if need arose.

The Despatch includes correspondence from HBM's Minister at Teheran [Tehran] (Charles Allison) and the British Consul General at Tabriz (Captain Henry Mitchell Jones).

The Enclosures are dated 6 June to 12 July 1871.
