tertained by Her Majesty’s Government as to the subsidy paid by
Zanzibar to Muscat.
2. We earnestly hope that it may even yet be possible for Her
Majesty’s Government to accept the views which we have so often
and so strongly expressed with regard to this subsidy. But we ven
ture to draw Your Grace’s attention to this correspondence as illus
trating the difficulties to be apprehended from continuing the pre
sent dual control of the relations of the British Government with
Zanzibar. In this case, while as yet the question of the continuance
or non-continuance of the subsidy was a matter of correspondence
between the Government of India and Y 7 our Grace, and while yet
