very neighbourhood of the Prince Governor’s camp, and carried off many of

Persian caravan was attributed by the Prince Governor A Prince of the Royal line who also acted as Governor of a large Iranian province during the Qājār period (1794-1925). to the Toorkomans who
acknowledged some kind of allegiance to Afghanistan, so, in revenue he seized
several Heratee camel drivers. Futteh Mahomed demanded their 1 restitution
and at the same time demanded the dismissal of the Persian Governor of
loorbut for his inability to keep the Toorkomans in check. What the result

439. Mhen Azim’s and Abdool Bahman’s force was routed, Alum Khan*

as best he could by the help of the Sheikh Ali Huzarahs, as, owing to the
inclemency of the weather, troops could not be sent just then.
440. He had apparently a difficult task before him, for Abdool Bahman’s*

lukhtapool, Muzar-i-Shureef, Tashkurghan, Eibuk, and Ghori. Jehandar Shah

Koondooz, which, it will be remembered, had given in its allegiance to the

and Abdool Bahman might make an at
tempt to return to Toorkistan, and there was a report that Sikunder Khan, son
of Sooltan Jan, of Herat, who had been in command of the Afghan Contino-ent
in Kauffmann’s army, had come down to Tukhtapool with 50 or 60 sowars on
the chance of finding an opening for retrieving the fortunes of his house.
441. But these difficulties* were much diminished by the indisposition of

presentative. Bit by bit, it was reported in the diary of the 4th Pebruary,
the Meers of Toorkistan were taking possession of the lands of which they had
been dispossessed. Alum Khan betook himself first apparently to Koondooz,
which had completely shaken off the yoke of the Ameer’s opponents. With

made an attempt to relieve Eibuk, but as soon as he had advanced for this
purpose to Tashkurghan from Tukhtapool, was re-called by news that disturb
ances had broken out there. He then made ostentatious preparations for
resisting Alum at Tashkurghan, but himself remained at Tukhtapool, and thence
fled one night and took refuge at Sherabad, There he remained some time.
