6S0. One Heratee regiment was actually started off to Hell Muzung, and
the Ameer desired Meer Akhor and the Governor of other parts about Cabul to
send 600 khurwars (i. e., 6,000 maunds) of grain to Bameean for the use of the
army which was to proceed to re-capture Herat. Alum Khan too was to hold a
force in readiness to assist the Ameer from the side of Toorkistan. The Ameer
proposed leaving Ibrahim and Mahomed
Hoossain at Cabul; but Ibrahim was un
willing so to be left, possibly remembering what had happened the last time he had
been left in charge of the capital. The Ameer’s counsellers recommended him,
on leaving Cabul, to remove as far as possible the elements of mischief by deputing
to British territory Shureef Khan, and Azim’s sons,—Abdool Azeez and Maasum,—
who were still in confinement.
681. On the 6th of June the Ameer disarmed two Heratee regiments who
had shown themselves disaffected.
682. Abdoollah Nasiree arrived in Cabul on the 1st Jane, in company with
seven Syuds and Kazees of Herat, to intercede for Yacoob. The Ameer on hearing
his account of the capture of Herat, which showed that many of the officers of the
garrison must have been in collusion with the victorious assailant, was very angry,
abused him and told him to return with the Syuds and Kazees to Herat, saying
that it was now too late to arrange matters, as ere that time TJslum and Beramoz
must have advanced and settled the matter one way or the other with Yacoob.
