“ ‘ 4>th .—Should the Ameer pass over the above three points, and, considering me his son,
desire me to give him an expression of my opinion, I would sincerely say that
any one who disturbs (the peace of) His Highnesses kingdom, it is desirable that
I should cut him into pieces by my own handd

Mahomed Uslum Khan sent a message
yesterday to the Ameer to the effect that if His Highness could send him some paper and a
kulumdan (writing materials) by hand of one or two trusted agents, he would submit to him an
account in the interest of the Grovernment.
“The Ameer sent Naib Hoossein Ali Khan, commanding the troops at Cabul,and Ahmed
Ali Khan, Superintendent of the Toshakanna, with a kulumdan and some paper to the

and he wrote to His Highness by his own hand that the Commander-in-Chief, having seduced
his (Mahomed Uslunds) favourite boy, Peer Mahomed, committed unnatural crime with him,
and he (Mahomed Uslum) being disgusted, ordered Guffoor, one of his adherents, to retaliate
on the Commander-in-Chief as far as practicable, and the result has been what has happened ;
also, that in reality he (Mahomed Uslum) did not commit this offence in view to injuring the
interests of His Highnesses Government. After mastering the contents of this letter the
Ameer made it over to the

officials, who said that Mahomed Uslum Khan wished to cloak
his offence of ruining the kingdom by accusing the Commander-in-Chief of a detestable

695. Meanwhile Yacoob, as is above-mentioned, bad arrived, receiv
ing a re-assuring letter from the Ameer by the hands of Meer Akhor ;
he proceeded slowly, in order that be might see how things turned out at
the capital. He reached it on the evening of the 5th July with 50 sowars,
and taking a Koran in his hands, waited on the Ameer to acknowledge his
faults. The Ameer took tea with him, and after an hour dismissed the assem-
blv The next day he again received him in

was said on either side. Those who watched the play of the Ameer’s features
concluded he had not made up his mind how to treat his son.
The prospect of peace, the agent wrote, was a cause of dissatisfaction to
men like Yahya Khan, who had desired disturbances in Cabul itself.
