! have the honor to inform you that on the 5th instant Syud Saeed bin
Mahomed sent me for perusal a letter from Deen Mahomed, the Zudgal Chief
of Dustyam in Mekran, to His Highness Syud Toorkee, requesting me to advise
him as to the answer to be sent. I herewith transmit a translation of the
document.
2. I replied verbally to Saeed, that as he sought my advice I had no
hesitation in recommending that His Highness Syud Toorkee should not coun
tenance the action of Deen Mahomed, unless indeed there was truth in the
assertion made that His Highness had directed the step. In the latter case I
said I had nothing to say, I was assured that His Highness had not given
such an order.
3. On the 8th instant I was again consulted on the same subject. A letter
was received from Mahomed Ali of Baho (cousin of Deen Mahomed), stating
that Syud Abdool Azeez had called on him to furnish 300 men to attack
Deen Mahomed; further stating that he (Mahomed Ali) was at His Highness’
service, and would, if ordered, oppose the march of Abdool Azeez.
4. Thoweynee bin Mahomed, His Highness’ Minister, and Saeed, his brother,
both called on me on the 9th to ask my opinion more fully on the subject of these
communications. I informed them in the first place, that I having been asked
for advice was merely stating my own opinion, and not making any request on
the part of Government. My advice was that His Highness should decline to
accept the services which the Belooch Chiefs were thrusting upon him; that
it would be unbecoming and impolitic to he forced in this manner into a prema
ture rupture with Syud Abdool Azeez.
