Translated copies of letters from Captain John Malcolm, former Envoy of the Supreme Government of India to Persia [Iran], to: the King [Shah] of Persia Futteh Ali Shah [Fath-'Ali Shāh Qājār]; Meerza Sheffie [ Mīrzā A title of honour originally applied to princes, later to military leaders, and later still to secretaries, chieftains, and other ‘gentlemen’. Muḥammad Shafī' Māzandarānī], Grand Vizier (Sadr-e 'Azam); Chiraugh Alee Khan [Cherāgh 'Ali Khān], Vizier to the Prince Regent; and other Persian officials. The letters concern the death in Bombay [Mumbai] of the Persian Ambassador to India [Hājī Muhammad Khalīl Khān Qazvīnī].
The letters were translated by Lieutenant Charles Pasley and enclosed in Malcolm's letter to the Secret Committee Pre-1784, the Committee responsible for protecting East India Company shipping. Post-1784, its main role was to transmit communications between the Board of Control and the Company's Indian governments on matters requiring secrecy. of the Court of Directors The London-based directors of the East India Company who dealt with the daily conduct of the Company's affairs. of the East India Company dated 16 November 1802.
