Your 84711 M*R,2.B/13995 April 13th paragraph 1.
Your 63496 cipher M.H.S.a. 537 of Yst was replied
to in my telegram 6363/ S.D.3. of Aug* 12th v/hich gave full
particulars of India r s rail requirements v/hich aggregate
500 miles.
Paragraph 2. Following is information asked for in
your telegram 84266 M.R.2.b. 13965 of August 7th.
For the period June 22nd to July 31st inclusive 7atas
rolling amounted to 6910 tons'. Owing to an accident to
rolls it is anticipated that output for ?August will not exceed
4000 tons.
Paragraph 3. 7/ith reference to G.O.C. Bagdad's X.12Q5
Aug. 15th it must definitely be understood that no additional
demands for track material can be met from India and reach
Basrah before the end of Jmwary 1919 and then only at the rate
of 25 miles per month approximately.
Paragraph 4. Provision of material which was promised
in paragraph 1 of my 41800 of May 28th has been completed and
admits of railway being extended for (?)scveral miles beyond
Khanikin.
G.O.C. Bagdad, was (? Officially informed in your tele
gram 62525 cipher M.R.2.a. 522 July 18th that extension of
line into Persia was to have priority over all other works.
There is at present in Mesopotamia sufficient for 50
pounds complete track material to admit of line being constructed
to Paitak provided your instructions are followed and work on
Euphrates line is not undertaken at expense of extension into
Persia.
