A letter, numbered 3, from HM Ambassador Extraordinary to Persia [Iran], Sir Gore Ouseley, to the Secret Committee Pre-1784, the Committee responsible for protecting East India Company shipping. Post-1784, its main role was to transmit communications between the Board of Control and the Company's Indian governments on matters requiring secrecy. of the Court of Directors The London-based directors of the East India Company who dealt with the daily conduct of the Company's affairs. of the East India Company. The letter encloses correspondence with Lord Minto [not included in this item]. Matters discussed by Ouseley include:

  • The conduct of Sir Harford Jones and a defence against the accusations made by Jones about Ouseley
  • His efforts to repair relations with the Persian authorities
  • Matters of a financial nature, particularly rates of exchange.

The letter was sent from Shiraz on 28 June 1811, and was received on 8 February 1812.
