The item include material relating to:
- An attack on a Portuguese ship by the English, who decapitated all the men on board, and sent their heads to Muscatt ‘for a present’ to Ruy Fferejra [Rui Freire de Andrade]
- The skirmishes of the King of Denmark [Christian IV] and Duke of Brunswick [Christian the Younger] against the Imperial Army under Monsieur [Johann Tserclaes, Count of ] Tilly
- The Spanish recapture of Baja [Bahia] in Brazillia [Brazil] from the ‘Hollanders’
- The return of the Shah’s ambassador, Sir Robert Sherly [Shirley], from his mission to Europe
- The outbreak of war between England and Spain, and the English expedition against Cádiz.
The item also includes:
- The accounts of expenses for two journeys in Persia: March 1626-January 1627, and February 1627-December 1628 (ff 152-197)
- Firmans, mandates, and letters issued by the Shah and others, June 1627-June 1630 (ff 203-226)
- Instructions from King Charles I to Nicholas Wilford, sent on a Mission to the Emperor of Persia (f 235); and Patterns [of silks] from Persia, received overland via Aleppo, 3 August 1697 (f 243).
