Memo. The whole of these Charts have been copied in the Indian Navy Draughtsman’s
Office in duplicate, and many of them in triplicate _and quadruplicate to meet the demands of
the public service.
For the preceding very valuable lists I am indebted to the Chief Engineer of
Public Works, General Waddington, and the Draughtsman of the Indian
Navy, Lieutenant Fergusson, the officer in charge of the Observatory. Having
been applied to on the subject through Government, they seem to have done
everything in their power to meet the views of the Society. When it is re
membered that the establishment of the Draughtsman’s office consists of one
European officer (the Draughtsman, a Lieutenant of the Indian Navy) and
two Native Draughtsmen, that its cost annually has of late amounted to no
more than Rs. 5,376, or Rs. 448 a month,* the amount of work lately turned
