to 27.3. Centre passed over the town.
1837. June 15. A tremendous hurricane swept over Bombay: an immense des
truction of property and loss of shipping in the harbour, estimated at nine and a
half lakhs One lakh is equal to one hundred thousand rupees , (£90,000); upwards of 400 native houses destroyed.
