Ir reply to your letter Ko*E•597/104/93 of the
15th instant on the subject of the repatriation to
Mesopotamia of Baghdadi officers expelled from Syria,
enclosing a copy of a tele gran Mo.2 6 of the 13 th January
from B.i'-High Commissioner, Cairo, I am commanded by the
Army Council to refer to their letter,number as above,
of the 22nd November, 1920 and to Treasury letter No.S.3638
of the 14th December last which endorsed the Council’s view
that in no case should Army Votes be liable for the cost
of this service.
In these circumstances the Council are not in a
position to offer any remarks ^e^rding the further
expenditure which Lord allenby proposes to 5ncur and toeir
sole Interest in this ratter xies in the recovery of all
expenditure which moy provisionally have been incurred from
army Funds on the maintenance of these officers and their
t a mi lies.
I am to add tiu t a claim for the recovery of this
expenditure will be presented in due course as soon as the
necessary Information is available.
