Draft Paper.
Department.
(P 7682) From Secretary of State to High Commissioner, Mesopotamia,
23rd October 1920.
{Repeated Viceroy.)
2753. My No. 2506, dated 13th October. El’ahd Society.
(1) Information received from reliable source states that Emir Feisal has been
asked to join League of Oppressed Nations. He declined on the ground that he could
not work on this political body. He nominated his brother Zeid in his place. Latter
is now in Rome. General Nuri
Pasha
An Ottoman title used after the names of certain provincial governors, high-ranking officials and military commanders.
has also joined League.
(2) League of Oppressed Nations is in close liaison with Asiatic Islamic Federation
mentioned in my telegram No. 2361, dated 7th October, para. 5. It seeks to unify
Irish, Egyptian,, Persian and Indian intrigues, and has support of Moscow and Berlin,
and is very active in Italy.
(3) Too much stress need not be laid on this particular information, but it
emphasises point that if we are to make any use of El’ahd it is desirable not to defer
our overtures until its leading members such as Nuri are definitely committed to our
enemies.
