This part of the volume consists of copies of enclosures to a despatch from the Government of Bombay’s Secret Department to the Secret Committee Pre-1784, the Committee responsible for protecting East India Company shipping. Post-1784, its main role was to transmit communications between the Board of Control and the Company's Indian governments on matters requiring secrecy. , Number 64 of 1843, dated 30 September 1843. The enclosures are dated 12 May-8 August 1843.
The papers relate to affairs in Persia [Iran] and include the claims of British Officers and non-Commissioned Officers on the Persian Government.
The principal correspondents are: the Assistant Political Resident A senior ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul General) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Residency. Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran.
