Bajaur & Pwat : About April last the clans on the right
bank of the Swat river threw off their allegiance to the
Hawab of Dir and elected Saiyid Abdul Jabber Shah of Sitana
as their Chief, but the clans on the left bank have all
apparently refused to Join saying that they have nothing
to do with the clans on the rigit bank.
Later information dated 13th July Swat situation satis
factory An East India Company trading post. ,
Peshawur: On June 3rd the village of Pabbi on the main
line between Peshawur and Bowfehera was^ raided and a Hindu
carried off. Troops went out but without result,
Mojiaan ds^The Babra Mulla is appantotly receiving some sup
port from the Shinwaris and from Mir Saiyid Jan Badshah
of Islarapur on the right bank of the Kunar river. The
latter has been summoned to Kabul,
On the other hand the Ch&knawar Mulla has stated that the
Ami* is not in favour of a Jehad and that this must be
postponed for the present. Certain Mohraand elders have
been suranoned to Kabul.
Hingrahar: The Amir has again forbidded anyone to Join the
..lohmands in Jehad and 4 months arrears of pay have been
distributed to the Afghan troops.
^rram: On 31st May about 30 men fired on the Gurkha
detachment at Sadda and were pursued by the Gurkhas and
Militia. Bo casualties,
Khostwals: Malik Musa Khan, on return from Kabul, has
been exhorting the people to Join the Jehad to be shortly

This file contains working drafts of confidential prints, correspondence and telegrams from the room of Sir Edmund Barrow, Military Secretary in the India Office The department of the British Government to which the Government of India reported between 1858 and 1947. The successor to the Court of Directors. , collected for the Mesopotamian Commission which was convened to examine the causes of the besieging and surrender of the Indian Expeditionary Force in Kut-el-Amara [Al Kūt].

The papers cover a range of topics and include the following: General Townshend's assessment of the situation after the Battle of Kut-el-Amara; a précis of correspondence relating to the origins and development of the Mesopotamia expedition; and a collection (ff 396-399) of private telegrams between the Secretary of State for India and the Viceroy, prior to the outbreak of war with Turkey.

The file also includes some tables showing the strength of General Townshend's force at Ctesiphon (folio 111) as well as the Indian Expeditionary Force 'D' (In Mesopotamia) Troops of the 6th Poona Division (folio 114).
