The item consists of copies of correspondence and a memorandum enclosed within a letter from the Government of Bombay From c. 1668-1858, the East India Company’s administration in the city of Bombay [Mumbai] and western India. From 1858-1947, a subdivision of the British Raj. It was responsible for British relations with the Gulf and Red Sea regions. [Mumbai] to the East India Company Court of Directors The London-based directors of the East India Company who dealt with the daily conduct of the Company's affairs. . The correspondence, written by Dr John Milne, former President of the Bombay Medical Board, relates to Milne’s arguments for sending dispatches from Bombay to London via Ghrane [Kuwait]. He argues that this route is safer, cheaper, and just as quick compared to other proposed routes along the Euphrates river or over the Red Sea. Milne’s correspondence also outlines the commercial and political benefits he believes would arise from maintaining a British presence in Ghrane.
