•/ith rej.erence to your despatch ho. 2 of the
2uti, April last regarding your office expenditure and
the condition of the consular premises at Ahwaz, I am
directed by Secretary Sir Austen Chamberlain to inform
you that the Lords Commissioners of Kis Majesty’s treasury
have sanctioned the assignment to your post of an office
allowance at the rate of sixty one thousand and ninety krans
per annum, with effect from the 1st instant, subject to
review in a year's time. Their Lordships have expressed
the hope that it will then be found possible to reduce the
clerical staff now employed which appears to them to be
large having regard to the req uiremen ts of other consular
posts in Persia*
