Sir,

referenoe i0 your letter of the 10th ultimo, P.108/23
regarding consular arrangements in Arabistan, I am directed by
the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs to state, for the
information of the Secretary of State for India in Council,
that the appointment of Mr. Peel as His Majesty's Consul at
Ahwaz is "being effected as from December 12th last.
In view of the fact that the revised provisional
arrangements for consular representation in Arabistan provide
for the employment of a salaried consul and a salaried vice
consul a^ Ahwaz it appears possible that Captain Gastrell, who
was reported in Sir P. Loraine f s despatch Ho.672 of the 20th
November last to have taken up the duties of vice-consul at
Ahwaz, is in fact remaining there in that capacity under Mr.
Peel, and I am to suggest that definite information regarding
Captain G-astrell’s position should be obtained from the
Government of India.
I am,
Sir,
Your obedient Servant,
