I am directed hy the Marquess Curzon of
Kedleston to state that His Majesty’s Minister
in Tehran has /been informed by the Government of
India that, contrary to the recommendation made
by Mr. Eridgeman, Major Hoel will not be appointed
to the Consulate at Ahwaz and that this post will
be otherwise filled.
2. In view of the considerable political
importance of the consulate a.t Ahwaz, Sir P. Loraine
asks that he may be consulted as regards a fresh
appointment to that post and earnestly trusts that
it may be possible for the Government of India to
arrange for the return thither of Captain Peel after
that officer shall have had adequate leave.
3 ^ . j am to express the earnest hope that Mr.
Secretary Montagu may urge the Government oj. India
to give effect to Sir P. Moraine’s wishes, &o
Captain Peel’s work while at Ahwaz appears to render
him very suitable for work .in the Bakhtiari country.
