1922.

1. “ Peace has at last been made between Enver Pasha An Ottoman title used after the names of certain provincial governors, high-ranking officials and military commanders. and ojrerselves at
(Kushk P). Enver has sworn to be sympathetically disposed to the Russian
Socialistic Federation Soviet Republic, always give active assistance and to act
for the Union of Islam. On our proposal be is to take command of the
Mohammedan troops who agree to assist Mustapha Kemal in the occupation of
the neutral zone of Chanak. A union between Enver and Mustapha would
doubtless be received with mixed feelings by the English Government.”
2. “ Our representative at Kabul informs us that the Amir of Afghanistan
sent a message of congratulation by telegraph to Mustapha Kemal concerning
the victory over the Greeks.”
Reorganisation of the Red Fleet.
3. “ The question of reorganisation and strengthening of the Red Fleet
has been entrusted to Admiral) now, Chief Commander, Red Naval Forces,
“ Nemittsa” who has been informed that aid from Germany both for building
large ships and submarines, is forthcoming. We intend to send submarines
to the Black Sea.”
4. “ Chicherin has been informed by Mustapha Kemal that discussions at
the conference will not be conducted without the voice of Russia being heard.”
5. “ Our agents communicate the despatch of the following British troops
to Constantinople:—The Staffordshire Regiment and the Duke of Wellington’s
Regiment. Other Regiments are to follow.”

1. “We have now entered into an official trade agreement with Persia
regarding cotton. We are to receive large quantities and this with our own
supplies in Turkistan will be sent to Germany in accordance with our agree
ment with the German Government. They will send us other goods in
exchange.”
2. “ Owing to our influence amongst the working people of France they
have prevented the French Government taking active military steps as desired
by the English in the Near East. The French workmen declare that not a single
man or gun will be given to assist England in a new war .which would evoke
hatred in the Mohammedan world.”

The intelligence summaries, and diaries, relate to political, foreign, military and diplomatic affairs in the locality and the neighbouring regions and are variously arranged under (chiefly) the following headings: 'Khorasan and North-East Persia'; 'Herat and Afghanistan'; 'Russian Turkistan'; 'Khorasan'; 'Cis-Frontier'; 'Trans-Frontier'; 'Afghanistan'; 'Bolshevik Garrisons'; 'Local'; 'Transcaspia'; 'Bokhara'; 'Tashkent'; 'Central Russia'; 'Khiva'; 'Ferghana'; 'General'; and 'Samarkand'. The summaries often include appendices which are usually extracts of local and national newspapers published in the regions and countries of interest, including Nabat , Rosta , Izvestia , Ittifaq-i-Islam , Bednota, Prolitarii , Sharq-i-Iran, and Pravda . Other appendices contain details of Bolshevik Garrisons in the region.
