10. Sarakhs, November 2nd .—Haji (Khawja) Quli recrossed from
Afghanistan on October 30th and proceeded to Tejend. He was accompanied
by 80 followers, 50 of whom were Afghans and Jamshedis, and the remainder
Turkomans. The reporter states that Quli’s presence denotes trouble and that
the Bolsheviks have already taken steps to prevent such trouble reaching seri
ous proportions. $ i (£
11. Merv .—Reference Diary No. 37, paragraph 8. A report from Takhta
Bazar states that five Turks (three Caucasian and two Ottoman) accompanied
by a Russian officer arrived there on October 20th and left at once for Kushk.
12. Kushk .—Reports continue to the effect that ail posts on the Russo-
Afghan frontier are to be increased. Large quantities of stores and ammuni
tion have already been stocked at Kushk and other frontier posts. During the
past three weeks extensive trench digging has been carried out at Kushk. The
post is very strictly guarded and no one is allowed near it without special per
mission. No stores are reported so far as having crossed into Afghanistan. *
Khiva.
13. October According to an arrival from Khiva the followers of
Junaid Khan are again active and several brushes with Bolshevik troops have
recently taken place. Another reporter states that many Turkomans have
volunteered to help Junaid Khan and that Khawja Quli is collecting men to
assist the former.
14-. Bolshevik troops at Retro Alexandrovsk are reported to be ver?
unsettled and discontented owing to the shortage of food and warm clothing.

deleted ; these individuals arrived in Meshed ^-Bokhara on 1st instantJasha
Mai, Bhoja Mai, Lala Mai, Nevand Mai and Jamnu Mai. The names of Ishar
Das, Uttam Cband and Muhammad Khan should be added to the Bokharan
List Muhammad Khan is stated to be an Indian Sepoy Term used in English to refer to an Indian infantryman. Carries some derogatory connotations as sometimes used as a means of othering and emphasising race, colour, origins, or rank. deserter and is now
serving in the Bolshevik army.
16. Beyond an attack on two villages near Karakul about October 20tb
reliable reports show that there has been no recrudescence of fighting in-
Bokhara area.
. 17. Hasan Effendi, the leader of the Nur Ata rebels has proceeded to
Baisun to confer with Enver Rasha, there is no news of other leaders having
been summoned.

states that after the Bolsheviks offered the Governorship of Bokhara to Enver,.

Khawja, the so-called President of Bokhara, returned from

The situation in Eerghana ^unchanged. Righting continues in this*
chief engagements lately being at Skobelef and Ora Tappa, both about,
loth when the rebels were defeated. Righting at Skobelef lasted
