Garrisons.
Kizil Arvat-May 2M.—600 Infantry, 250 Cavalry ; mostly Muhammadans andcompris-
ing 3 platoons of the 5th Samara Regiment 4 guns, 3 machine guns, 1 aeroplane.
Karakul—May 25th— Infantry 250 Cavalry ; mostly Muhammadans, 3guns, 4 machine
guns, 1 aeroplane.
Bokhara—May 25^.-6,000 Infantry, 800 Cavalry. Mixed Russians and Muhammadans,
greater portion latter. Two regiments recognized were the 10th Tashkent and 6th Orenburg,
both of the 1st Red Division. Commander of troops, Bagdanoff, 12 guns, 8 machine guns,
2 armoured cars, 3 planes. In addition to above troops there are 1,500 scattered m detachments
of 2-300 in small villages around Bokhara.
Kirki—May 23rd.—2, m) Infantry, 1,500 Cavalry; mostly Muhammadans, 12 guns,
8 machine guns', 1 aeroplane. At Andhhui, 300 Cavalry and Infantry. At Bosaga, 500 Cavalry
and Infantry.
Kilif—May 2$A—1,700 Infantry, 800 Cavalry, mostly Muhammadans, 6 guns, 4 machine
guns, 1 aeroplane. At Kara Kala, 250 Infantry With 1 machine gun.
Kermineh—May 28th.—1,750 Infantry, 750 Cavalry, 6 guns, 4 machine guns, 1 armoured
car, 1 aeroplane.
Ori Tappa—700. Infantry, 300 Cavalry, 3 guns, 4 machine guns, 1 armoured car, 1 plane.

Cherniyevo—May 20th—100 Infantry, 100 Cavalry, Russians, 3 guns, 2 machine guns,

The intelligence summaries, and diaries, relate to political, foreign, military and diplomatic affairs in the locality and the neighbouring regions and are variously arranged under (chiefly) the following headings: 'Khorasan and North-East Persia'; 'Herat and Afghanistan'; 'Russian Turkistan'; 'Khorasan'; 'Cis-Frontier'; 'Trans-Frontier'; 'Afghanistan'; 'Bolshevik Garrisons'; 'Local'; 'Transcaspia'; 'Bokhara'; 'Tashkent'; 'Central Russia'; 'Khiva'; 'Ferghana'; 'General'; and 'Samarkand'. The summaries often include appendices which are usually extracts of local and national newspapers published in the regions and countries of interest, including Nabat , Rosta , Izvestia , Ittifaq-i-Islam , Bednota, Prolitarii , Sharq-i-Iran, and Pravda . Other appendices contain details of Bolshevik Garrisons in the region.
