{vii) As reported some time previously two employees of the Afghan
Embassy at Angora brought despatches to Herat. One of these was an
Indian Haji Mansur Ansari. Various presents were made him by the Naib-ul-
Hukumeh and 200 five rouble gold pieces for the Angora Embassy were
entrusted to him. It is believed he is the bead clerk of that Embassy. Heleit
Herat on the 21st.
{viii) The four heavy boxes of reputed telegriph material referred to in
previous Summaries were loaded on two gun carriages, each drawn by four
horses and with a jemadar and 12 men as escort. The consignment will be
handed over in Kandahar.
(ix) A company of the Kandahar battalion in Bala Murghab returned
to Herat on the 22nd after relief by a company of the Khaki battalion.
{x) The Naib Salar has ordered the sappers to collect material from the
ruined Herat Musalla wherewith to commence building the new magazine.
(xi) A firman A Persian word meaning a royal order or decree issued by a sovereign, used notably in the Ottoman Empire (sometimes written ‘phirmaund’). has been received from Kabul directing that all State
lands must be sold to the public. The order has been promulgated by the
Naib-ul-Hukumeh.

It contains numbered periodical (mainly weekly) reports relating to Persia [Iran], initially each called an 'Intelligence Summary' and later called a 'Meshed Intelligence Diary'. The reports cover the period of the week ending 1 January 1921 to the period ending 1 January 1923. They are initially issued by the British Military Mission, Meshed [Mashhad, also known as Mashad or Meshad], and later by the Military Attaché, Meshed. The intelligence summaries, and diaries, relate to political, foreign, military and diplomatic affairs in the locality and the neighbouring regions and are variously arranged under (chiefly) the following headings: 'Khorasan and North-East Persia'; 'Herat and Afghanistan'; 'Russian Turkistan'; 'Khorasan'; 'Cis-Frontier'; 'Trans-Frontier'; 'Afghanistan'; 'Bolshevik Garrisons'; 'Local'; 'Transcaspia'; 'Bokhara'; 'Tashkent'; 'Central Russia'; 'Khiva'; 'Ferghana'; 'General'; and 'Samarkand'. The summaries often include appendices which are usually extracts of local and national newspapers published in the regions and countries of interest, including Nabat , Rosta , Izvestia , Ittifaq-i-Islam , Bednota, Prolitarii , Sharq-i-Iran, and Pravda . Other appendices contain details of Bolshevik Garrisons in the region.
