“ lttifaq-i-lslam” published at Herat, 7th November 1921,
1. The opening ceremony of the Sharafat School at Herat.
2 Aqa Muhammad Ismail Khan has been appointed by the Minister of
Education to be Inspector General of Education, Herat.
3.' The total number of military students enrolled is 150, including
TWO SONS OF THE NAIB SALAR.
At the opening ceremony the following are some of the questions
addressed to students for the edification of those present. Their nature
confirms the remark in last week’s Summary that the future education of
Afghan youth will probably be militaristic :—■
Q. What preparations are required for war?
A. Every soldier should be trained as such. He should understand the
orders of his officer and should carry them out promptly.
Q. What is bravery.
A. Not to care for death when serving our King.
Q, What should be the qualifications of a section commander ?
A. i. The uses of a telescope, ii. Ability to judge distance,
iii. Correct word of command, iv. Knowledge of fire discipline.
Q. What is meant by firmness ?
A To stand- fast with a small force against a stronger and for a Ion?

A. The point of the lance.
Q. What is necessary to gain victory?

The Government of Great Britain, which has shown its sincerity in the
matter of the advancement of the education of Afghans and of the country
yN&oarustan, has arranged free passage by railway for the Afghan
s udents from the frontier to Bombay. The latter will be guests of the State
during their stay in India en route for Europe.

The summaries often include appendices which are usually extracts of local and national newspapers published in the regions and countries of interest, including Nabat , Rosta , Izvestia , Ittifaq-i-Islam , Bednota, Prolitarii , Sharq-i-Iran, and Pravda . Other appendices contain details of Bolshevik Garrisons in the region.
