Garrison was 1,500 but was reduced to 700 on or about the 7th by the
despatch of 800 men to Askhabad. Present garrison includes 200 cavalry,
1 battery, 1 aeroplane, 2 armoured cars, one of which was lately detached to
Askhabad. 1 lorry. Units : 2nd Turkestan Eegiment, 6th Orenburg Battery.
Kushk. —5th September 1921.

Takhta "Bazar. —6th September 1921.
Pive hundred, majority Muslims. Units: A battalion of 16th Turkestan
Eegiment, 14th Turkmen Otryad. 2nd Popov’s squadron (probably means
1 squadron of 2nd Popov’s Cavalry). Of this garrison 100 cavalry are at
Maruchaq, 50 on the Karki Eoad, and 50 with one gun at Tash Kopri 3 guns.
4 machine guns. 1 armoured car. 1 lorry. 1 projector at Tash Kopri rail
way station. 20 transport carts. Military Komissar is Shatalov.
Khiva. —5th September 1921.
Five thousand, majority Muslims. This represents the number of troops
throughout the Khanate and includes 1,500 mounted men and 2,000 native
Khivans.
Kagan. —2nd September 1921.
One thousand and five hundred, majority Muslims. Units: 3rd
Chernyaevo and 6th Orenburg regiments. 2nd Don Cossack Battery. Of this
garrison 100 horsemen are at Zorabad, 100 at Amirabad railway station and
150 ac Kizil Teppe railway station. 2 armoured cars. 1 lorry. 2 aeroplanes.
Wireless. 1 projector on a high point near railway station.
Katta Kurgan- —7th September 1921.
Seven hundred, majority Muslims, and including 50 mounted. Units:
6th Chernyaevo Regiment and 9th(?) Orenburg Cossack Battery. Wireless.
1 projector. 1 armoured car. 10 motor cycles. 5 aeroplanes. Airpark
personnel, 200.
Samarkand. —9th September 1921.
Two thousand and five hundred, majority Muslims, and including 500
mounted men of 9th Chernyaevo Regiment. Units: 4th and 5th Tashkent
Regiments. 1 field battery. 2 armoured cars. 3 lorries. 4 light cars. A
projector on a railway truck. An armoured train of 6 wagons which have
had their guns removed. G. O. C. Samarkand is Ivanov.
Khojend. —3rd September 1921.
One thousand and two hundred, majority Muslims, and including 200
cavalry of the 5th Kashirski Regiment. Units : 2nd Skobelev, 11th Tashkent,
4th Kazan Battery. 1 armoured car, 3 light cars. An armoured train. A

Kokand. —7th September 1921.
Three thousand and five hundred, majority Muslims, and including 1,000

The summaries often include appendices which are usually extracts of local and national newspapers published in the regions and countries of interest, including Nabat , Rosta , Izvestia , Ittifaq-i-Islam , Bednota, Prolitarii , Sharq-i-Iran, and Pravda . Other appendices contain details of Bolshevik Garrisons in the region.
