APPENDIX II.
“ Ittifaq-i-Islam,” published in Herat, August 8th, 1921.
The following article is given in extenso on account of the pan Islamic spirit expressed
therein.
On Unify in the Islamic World.
For many years the Muslims of Afghanistan have felt a keen desire for unison with that
great Muslim power, Turkey. Owing to the brotherhood that exists in Islam they have realised
that both spiritual and temporal strength lie in such unison. The great Ottoman Power has
shown itself to be equally desirous and anxious for such a combination.
The diplomacy of the enemies of Islam and the trickery of those powers hostile to such a
combination have been successful in delaying a mutual agreement between the two nations up to
the present. In the past these two great powers, though in close alliance and indissolubly bound
together by virtue of their religious brotherhood have never been able to ally themselves actually
and diplomatically.
Thanks to the good fortune atten ding Muslims and to the admirable intellect of His Majesty
the Amir Amanulta Khan, a way to the conclusion of an agreement has been discovered. He
has taken the very first opportunity to send a deputation under Sultan Ahmad Khan to the
Ottoman Nationalist Government of
Anatolia
Peninsula that forms most of modern-day Turkey.
in Angora.. This deputation has been received
with the utmost respect by the gallant sons of Islam.
In order to interest and please our Muslim brothers and out of gratitude for the regard and
distinction with which our deputation was received by the Angora officials we reproduce a letter
Written us from Angora by a member of the deputation.
The whole world of Islam will be uplifted by joy and gratitude for this great achievement
and will pray for the progress of Islam in the beneficent shadow of His Majesty the Great King.
Unity m Islam—The arrival of the Afghan Deputation in Angara,
Unity among Muslims is the root principle of Islam,
Self-interest and indulgence in lust, as evinced by some Muslims, have degraded anddis-
grace sam an lr * ln j e 1 ^ s g r ^ nf i eur f° r some time. Islam, which imposed its superiority on
the world and extended its rule from east to west, is now made to look ridiculous owing to the
emeri so ose w o pro ess its tenets while its holy places are bombarded. God save us from
the mischievousness of the wicked. From the day he was enthroned our present King, the
peace see "er o e ' vor > was anxious to rid Islam from such humiliation and to harmonize its
conflicting and scattered forces. May God be his help ?
Me thank Him that our remarkable deputation has reached the capital of the great Muslim
Power and is even now engaged in the discussion of affairs,
Owing to the closing of certain routes our King’s efforts to send a deputation to the great
National Turkish Government have twice failed. Now by the grace of God, travelling M
Turkestan, Baku, and Batoum, it has reached Angora.
We have received our first post from our secretary to the deputation.
About this item
- Content
The item consists of Part 1 of the subject file 1341/1921: 'Meshed Consular & Intelligence Diaries (1921-1922)'.
It contains numbered periodical (mainly weekly) reports relating to Persia [Iran], initially each called an 'Intelligence Summary' and later called a 'Meshed Intelligence Diary'. The reports cover the period of the week ending 1 January 1921 to the period ending 1 January 1923. They are initially issued by the British Military Mission, Meshed [Mashhad, also known as Mashad or Meshad], and later by the Military Attaché, Meshed. The intelligence summaries, and diaries, relate to political, foreign, military and diplomatic affairs in the locality and the neighbouring regions and are variously arranged under (chiefly) the following headings: 'Khorasan and North-East Persia'; 'Herat and Afghanistan'; 'Russian Turkistan'; 'Khorasan'; 'Cis-Frontier'; 'Trans-Frontier'; 'Afghanistan'; 'Bolshevik Garrisons'; 'Local'; 'Transcaspia'; 'Bokhara'; 'Tashkent'; 'Central Russia'; 'Khiva'; 'Ferghana'; 'General'; and 'Samarkand'. The summaries often include appendices which are usually extracts of local and national newspapers published in the regions and countries of interest, including Nabat , Rosta , Izvestia , Ittifaq-i-Islam , Bednota, Prolitarii , Sharq-i-Iran, and Pravda . Other appendices contain details of Bolshevik Garrisons in the region.
