ious internal dissensions among the Bolsheviks themselves. In fact,
it would seem that Bolshevik can no longer be regarded as a generic
tero, the mass having fcplifc into the two components of Bolshevik and
Communist who appear to hold divergent views on politico-economic
questions, fhe same sources of information ascribe an exhaustion
of patience on the part of the native populations of Transeaspia &
Central Asia who are prepared to accept any measures that will free
them from the influences which are strangling life at the source —
the fool products of the land. One traveller quotes Turkmen opinion
which compares the occupation of their country by the British with
that it now has to eddure*
These accounts of dissensions and cleavage may be biassed,
being prompted by wishes that are fathers to thoughts, but from them
emerges one conclusion, and that is that none who has seen Bolshev
ism in being and viewed its works is under anjr illusion that it is
going to improve the lot of mankind — in other words it is its own
most powerful anti-propagandist.
Nevertheless, the movement is still with us and its prose
lytising activities in other countries have to be reckoned with.
In Meshed there is a group of individuals who are under observation
and who eventually may prove to be the nucleus of a group working
in uhe interests of bolshevik or Communist propaganda.

The intelligence summaries, and diaries, relate to political, foreign, military and diplomatic affairs in the locality and the neighbouring regions and are variously arranged under (chiefly) the following headings: 'Khorasan and North-East Persia'; 'Herat and Afghanistan'; 'Russian Turkistan'; 'Khorasan'; 'Cis-Frontier'; 'Trans-Frontier'; 'Afghanistan'; 'Bolshevik Garrisons'; 'Local'; 'Transcaspia'; 'Bokhara'; 'Tashkent'; 'Central Russia'; 'Khiva'; 'Ferghana'; 'General'; and 'Samarkand'. The summaries often include appendices which are usually extracts of local and national newspapers published in the regions and countries of interest, including Nabat , Rosta , Izvestia , Ittifaq-i-Islam , Bednota, Prolitarii , Sharq-i-Iran, and Pravda . Other appendices contain details of Bolshevik Garrisons in the region.
