The leaders of the Indian movement demand complete autonomy
from the English Government; the Japanese working classes derr nd
of their superiors a recognition of their unions; the English
workers are fighting not only for an improvement in their con
ditions of life but for control by the workers themselves.
There is a whole series of other informat ion which more
and more clearly tells us the t the bourgeoisie for the thousnedth
time are in the wrong when they call these strikes, insurrections,
irruptions and unrest among the labouring classes ’mutinies of
sieves wishing to errry off from the bourgeoisie -heir lost piece
of breed" "Robbers", "savage strikers", "licentious scum", and
so on.
The whole bourgeois press, and especially that of Germany,
is clamourous for help and calls for protection from xobbery,
violence, et cetera.
The bourgeoisie devotes all its resources, and especially
its press, to deceive the working classes, to concealing the
inner meaning of passing events, and to assuring Is siour tha t
what is happening is not what it is out semething differ *it.
But the bourgeoisie not only assures otters, out it
believes itself tJmt nothing momentous, nothing terrible is ever
going to happen.

About this item

Content

The item consists of Part 1 of the subject file 1341/1921: 'Meshed Consular & Intelligence Diaries (1921-1922)'.

It contains numbered periodical (mainly weekly) reports relating to Persia [Iran], initially each called an 'Intelligence Summary' and later called a 'Meshed Intelligence Diary'. The reports cover the period of the week ending 1 January 1921 to the period ending 1 January 1923. They are initially issued by the British Military Mission, Meshed [Mashhad, also known as Mashad or Meshad], and later by the Military Attaché, Meshed. The intelligence summaries, and diaries, relate to political, foreign, military and diplomatic affairs in the locality and the neighbouring regions and are variously arranged under (chiefly) the following headings: 'Khorasan and North-East Persia'; 'Herat and Afghanistan'; 'Russian Turkistan'; 'Khorasan'; 'Cis-Frontier'; 'Trans-Frontier'; 'Afghanistan'; 'Bolshevik Garrisons'; 'Local'; 'Transcaspia'; 'Bokhara'; 'Tashkent'; 'Central Russia'; 'Khiva'; 'Ferghana'; 'General'; and 'Samarkand'. The summaries often include appendices which are usually extracts of local and national newspapers published in the regions and countries of interest, including Nabat , Rosta , Izvestia , Ittifaq-i-Islam , Bednota, Prolitarii , Sharq-i-Iran, and Pravda . Other appendices contain details of Bolshevik Garrisons in the region.
