Our oppressive economical situation w ill not allow ua
in the near future to adopt measures for the erection
of new buildings, de shrll hf ve to direct the whole of
our attention to the renovation of those we have in order
to preserve thera from further decay. Thanks to no
measures having been adopted to this end last year the
winter that has just passed did no little damage to
buildings. Many have bean so seriously injured that they
will collapse next winter if not repaired in time. Mean
while the housing conditions in the life of the working
classes are exerting this or that influence on the health
both of the workers and of their families. Prom the first
days of its existence the Soviet troverament has given its
principal attention to the preservation of the health
of those who seem to it to be of the greatest value, in
other words, the workers. It took the best houses from
the bourgeoisie sad established tbs workers in their
place.
The first beginning of ill-health are traceable to
dwellings in which w or king people live and spend eight

The intelligence summaries, and diaries, relate to political, foreign, military and diplomatic affairs in the locality and the neighbouring regions and are variously arranged under (chiefly) the following headings: 'Khorasan and North-East Persia'; 'Herat and Afghanistan'; 'Russian Turkistan'; 'Khorasan'; 'Cis-Frontier'; 'Trans-Frontier'; 'Afghanistan'; 'Bolshevik Garrisons'; 'Local'; 'Transcaspia'; 'Bokhara'; 'Tashkent'; 'Central Russia'; 'Khiva'; 'Ferghana'; 'General'; and 'Samarkand'. The summaries often include appendices which are usually extracts of local and national newspapers published in the regions and countries of interest, including Nabat , Rosta , Izvestia , Ittifaq-i-Islam , Bednota, Prolitarii , Sharq-i-Iran, and Pravda . Other appendices contain details of Bolshevik Garrisons in the region.
