A company of the Kandahar Regiment at Anar darn has been recalled and
has arrived at Herat.
Bolshevik Gakbisons.
. Baku. Garrison was stated to have been on 22 nd ultimo 14,000,
majority Mussalmans. Two men of war were at anchor, one opposite the citv
the other towards Black Guards’ Hill. 4 armoured cars were seen and manv
aeroplanes.
Krasnovodsk. On 2nd April the garrison was reported to be 700, mostlv
Russians and including 50 Persian cavalry. Detachments of the 6 th Turkestan
and 3rd Andijan regiments were seen. 6 field guns, 6 machine gnus, two
heavy gnus as coast defence and 4 armed launches were enumerated.
The 2 nd Askhabad Brigade was in Krasnovodsk awaiting shipment to
Baku. With this there were seen 9 guns and 14 machine guns.
At Gumbad-i-Ghaus, a small village on the road leading from Krasnovodsk
to the Persian frontier there was a detachment of 100 men with two guns and
two machine guns.
Kisil Ary at.—The garrison was reported on the 4th April to be 500 men of
the 3rd Andijan Regiment armed with single-loader rifles. A detachment of 150
men from this garrison is stationed on the frontier towards Bujnurd.
Askhabad. The garrison was reported on the 5 th April to number about
5,000 and to include the following regiments : 5 th Turkestan. ?? Kurski ; 2nd
1 st Lzbeg Cavalry. An ambulance corps. A Mechanical Transport Company.
Akhtopinski (sic).^ One militia battalion, probable name Poltaratsk Regiment ;
Local mounted levies ; 4 heavy guns ; 7 field and 18 machine guns ; 3 armoured
cars ; 5 aeroplanes.
Kaaka. —Garrison was relieved on 31st March and proceeded West being
succeeded by Russian troops from Merv. Details are wanting.
Merv. —Garrison was stated to have been on 31st March 3,500 and to
include ; 12th and 13th Turkestan, 13th Kazan and 4th Ural. One squadron of
2nd Popov’s Cavalry, one of 4th Popov’s Cavalry and the 3rd squadron of 17th
Turkoman Cavalry. 8 field and 12 machine guns ; 1 armoured car ; 2 aeroplanes
with aerodrome at Bairam Ali.
Kushk .—Garrison stated to have been on 1 st April 7,000 mixed tribes,
Russians preponderating but including about 300 Jamshedis. The garrison
belongs to the 2nd Turkestan Division and included : 300 Jamshedis aforesaid ;
3rd Kazan Regiment ; 4th Chernievski ; 10th Samara ; 11th Turkestan ; 5th
Ural ; 4 batteries.
Charjui .—A casual mentions presence of 1st Turkestan, and 5th Bokhara
Regiments ; 500 Cavalry ; 8 field and 8 machine guns.
The report is out of date but is confirmed in part by statements in the press.
Another report dated 2nd instant gives the garrison at 4,000 which U probab
ly an exaggeration. Of these 500 are said to be in Old Charjui. In addition there
are 400 sailors of the Amu Darya flotilla ; 12 field and 8 machine gnus ;
2 armoured cars ; 3 aeroplanes. An aerodrome.

The summaries often include appendices which are usually extracts of local and national newspapers published in the regions and countries of interest, including Nabat , Rosta , Izvestia , Ittifaq-i-Islam , Bednota, Prolitarii , Sharq-i-Iran, and Pravda . Other appendices contain details of Bolshevik Garrisons in the region.
