The remainder of the goods, money, etc., will be handed over on the delivery

Thus you see that the Soviet Government is endeavouring to help you, to
secure huge profits by sowing cotton, and maintain your households by those
goods which you have in your own power to acquire—
Get on to this !
Realise the Soviet Government calls upon you to increase the sowing of
cotton, endeavouring threby to save you from ruin and want.
Owing to the strict scrutiny obtaining at the frontier, due to the operation
of martial law and to the closing of the passes between Darragaz and Quchan,
no Bolshevik press has been received during the current week. Two posters
have been sent by a correspondent on the frontier and their translations are
appended.
The first was communicated by wireless, and in English, to the radio stations
in India. The reasons underlying its production are obvious and comment is
unnecessary. It is given here for the benefit of those to whom the radio message
was not communicated.

About this item

Content

The item consists of Part 1 of the subject file 1341/1921: 'Meshed Consular & Intelligence Diaries (1921-1922)'.

It contains numbered periodical (mainly weekly) reports relating to Persia [Iran], initially each called an 'Intelligence Summary' and later called a 'Meshed Intelligence Diary'. The reports cover the period of the week ending 1 January 1921 to the period ending 1 January 1923. They are initially issued by the British Military Mission, Meshed [Mashhad, also known as Mashad or Meshad], and later by the Military Attaché, Meshed. The intelligence summaries, and diaries, relate to political, foreign, military and diplomatic affairs in the locality and the neighbouring regions and are variously arranged under (chiefly) the following headings: 'Khorasan and North-East Persia'; 'Herat and Afghanistan'; 'Russian Turkistan'; 'Khorasan'; 'Cis-Frontier'; 'Trans-Frontier'; 'Afghanistan'; 'Bolshevik Garrisons'; 'Local'; 'Transcaspia'; 'Bokhara'; 'Tashkent'; 'Central Russia'; 'Khiva'; 'Ferghana'; 'General'; and 'Samarkand'. The summaries often include appendices which are usually extracts of local and national newspapers published in the regions and countries of interest, including Nabat , Rosta , Izvestia , Ittifaq-i-Islam , Bednota, Prolitarii , Sharq-i-Iran, and Pravda . Other appendices contain details of Bolshevik Garrisons in the region.
