An officer with transport has been sent to Ghurian to bring to Herat three
heavy muzzle-loading guns.
Troops have been paid for the last month at the rate of Rs. 14. They are
said to be incensed at their treatment in this respect.
BOLSHEVIK GARRISONS.
106. KrasnovodsK—Zlst March. 6,322 of all arms, 12 field guns, 22 machine
guns, 4 aeroplanes, 7 armoured cars, 2 searchlights. This report cannot be
accepted as correct until authenticated.
Kizil A.rvat. —31st March. 2,500 of all arms and including 18 machine guns,
7 field guns, 1 search light and 2 armoured cars. The same remark as to
authenticity applies here.
Askhabad.—No change reported but the following units have been located
in the garrison by the aid of the Askhabad paper “ Rabat.
? ? batteries of the Heavy Artillery Division.
A Turkestan Rifle Regiment.
The Frontier Oavalrv Division. (A Russian Cavalry does not coriespond
in point of numbers with the English Cavalry Division), Mechanical Trans
port Detachment (lorry).
Artik. —No change reported.
Kaakha—800 to 900 is given as the garrison on the 2nd instant but the
correspondent unfortunately does not give precise details. This place is largely
used as a rest camp for troops passing east or west of Merv, hence the numbers
present varv considerably from time to time. 100 troops from this garrison
are said to be in the frontier post of Khivabad but this is undoubtedly an exag
geration, 25 to 35 being the usual complement.
Merv. The numbers remain the same as previously reported (3,500) but a
detail of units has not been afforded during the current week.
Char rid .— Details of the garrison ,are wanting. Reports state that old
Charjui has a garrison of 500 and the bridge over the Amu Darya -00.

The headquarters of the Ferghana Expeditionary Force were m Kokand
at the time the report was rendered. , , days,
