tions with the Afghans were cordial and the garrison was relatively well sup
plied froni Afghanistan. In return rifies and ammunition were sent to Afghan

Merv.—24th February. 1,000 troops, decrease being due to despatch of
troops eastward and of a few Sarakhs. 4 field-guns, 1 airplane, 1 armoured
AshJcabad.—2nd March. Troops estimated at 4,000 to 5,000. No detailed

Krasnovodsk.—25th February. About 2,000 troops among them being a
detachment from the 14th Turkistan (expected to leave eastwards), the Persian
detachment, and the 5th Andijan.
Between 19th and 25th February 2 troop-trains arrived, one of which was
immediately returned to Askhabad. 1 troop-ship left for Baku.
There were about 200 wounded in hospital reputedly from the Georgian
front.
The food question was acute.
Many refugees from Baku were arriving in Turkoman craft.
