APPENDIX 3.
Extract from the “ Sharq-i-Iran,” Meshed, dated 20th
February 1921, No. 40.
1. Foreign Merchant s.^-Wq understand some Russian merchants have
arrived in Meshed with permission of the Government to make purchases
They intend re-opening trade.
2. Arrival of merchandise from Last Friday (i.e., 18th February
1921).over 70 camel-ioads of goods, mainly glassware, arrived from Russia for
Centre Soyez.
3; Probability of TFhr.—The British troops have taken up their position
in vicinity of Imao. Zadeh Hashem. The Communists are also moving and
hostilities will soon break out. We hear British aeroplanes have lately 5 been
bombing the Resht garrison but not more than five or six have been killed.
4. From oar Tehran Correspondent.—Ths British are spreading false
rumours re conditions in Tehran, such rumours usually originating from British
sources in the south. They describe the situation in Tehran so tragically
that letters received from Shiraz often contain questions such as. What is
happening in lehran? M^e are anxious ! WLo have been assasinated? The
British are doing their besUo “ light the fire ” of disorder and chaos in Tehran,
but thank God, so far nothing has happened.
5. Helpless Ireland .—Under this heading appears a brief article which
severely condemns British policy and methods in Ireland and eulogises the
patriotism and sufferings of the Irish people. Article concludes by saying that,
even if the Irish nation does not succeed in gaining its independence, it will have
proved its pitiable and unfortunate position to the whole world and the number
of blood-stained pages in the black history of the wicked British will be y et
added to in the eyes of the civilised world.
6. Some quotations from Lord Curzons recent speech on Persia; which
the paper punctuates with signs of exclamation., e.g. (a) There is no want of
sincerity on our part in our policy towards Persia! (b) If Persia does not
choose to accept the agreement, we will make it clear to her not to count on
our friendship any more !

The summaries often include appendices which are usually extracts of local and national newspapers published in the regions and countries of interest, including Nabat , Rosta , Izvestia , Ittifaq-i-Islam , Bednota, Prolitarii , Sharq-i-Iran, and Pravda . Other appendices contain details of Bolshevik Garrisons in the region.
