Amir and in the meantime Abdul K&rim is being despatched to Kabul under
supervision.
( 2 ) The Naib-ul-Hukumah has accommodated in the Chahar Bagh an
arrival from Russian territory concerning whom some mystery is observed
He is supposed to be a secretary of an Afghan general implicated in the con
flict of Bokharan forces with the Bolsheviks 3 and to have come either to arrange
for funds for his chief or for the evacuation of certain Afghan omns still ?n
Bokharan territory. ° 11
(3) Several batches of Indians totalling 17 in all reached Herat from
Russia up to the 13th January. They are in poor circumstances and appear
to be residents in Turkistan who proceeded there in the time of the late Amir
and who have now been expelled by the Bolsheviks for whom they have not a
good word to say. Their intention is said to be to return to India via Kabul
Ihe names of three of them are given as Khuda Baksh, Gul Muhammad, and

About this item
- Content
The item consists of Part 1 of the subject file 1341/1921: 'Meshed Consular & Intelligence Diaries (1921-1922)'.
It contains numbered periodical (mainly weekly) reports relating to Persia [Iran], initially each called an 'Intelligence Summary' and later called a 'Meshed Intelligence Diary'. The reports cover the period of the week ending 1 January 1921 to the period ending 1 January 1923. They are initially issued by the British Military Mission, Meshed [Mashhad, also known as Mashad or Meshad], and later by the Military Attaché, Meshed. The intelligence summaries, and diaries, relate to political, foreign, military and diplomatic affairs in the locality and the neighbouring regions and are variously arranged under (chiefly) the following headings: 'Khorasan and North-East Persia'; 'Herat and Afghanistan'; 'Russian Turkistan'; 'Khorasan'; 'Cis-Frontier'; 'Trans-Frontier'; 'Afghanistan'; 'Bolshevik Garrisons'; 'Local'; 'Transcaspia'; 'Bokhara'; 'Tashkent'; 'Central Russia'; 'Khiva'; 'Ferghana'; 'General'; and 'Samarkand'. The summaries often include appendices which are usually extracts of local and national newspapers published in the regions and countries of interest, including Nabat , Rosta , Izvestia , Ittifaq-i-Islam , Bednota, Prolitarii , Sharq-i-Iran, and Pravda . Other appendices contain details of Bolshevik Garrisons in the region.
