Extracts from “ Taza Bahar, ” Meshed> dated 27th January 1921.
1. British Memorandum. —According to information from a special
source at Tehran, we learn that after receipt of proposed terms to Persia by
Kussia, British Legation has presented a Memorandum to the Persian Govern
ment, contents of which have not yet been disclosed.
Z. Arrival of Troops. —In accordance with information received, a party
of Indian troops have arrived in Bushire. May the end of all this be for the
welfare of this “ grief stricken ” land {i.e., Persia).
It is rumoured that these troops are on their way to the Capital to
prevent a Bolshevik advance along the Shiraz road.
Bushire-Shiraz railway line has also been taken in hand and is being laid
down.
Extracts from.the “ Sharq-i-Ir anMeshed, dated 24th January 1921.
1 . Bussian Commercial Companies. —We understand that a few repre
sentatives from some large commercial concerns and companies of Bussia
have already arrived in Askhabad and Kahka with the view to opening up
trade connections with merchants in Khorasan. Some of them have already
communicated with a few business houses in Khorasan.
_ 2. Departure to Berlin. —Moshawer-ul-Mamalek, Persian Envoy Extra
ordinary at Moscow on conclusion of negotiations will proceed to Berlin to
undergo a course of medical treatment.
3. Belease. —Representations by the Prime Minister have resulted in the
release of Shahzadeh Suliman Mirza and Shahzadeh Isa Mirza, his brother
who were imprisoned in Bombay. They will return to the Capital vid
Baghdad.
4. soviet Ambassador.—’hi. Ricbiski (?), who has been appointed ambas
sador to Persia by the Soviet Government and accepted by Persian Ministry
as such, will soon leave for Tehran. J

representatives in Parliament not to vote for the Anglo-Persian agreement.
6 - Meetings in Tehran.—In view of the arrest of some Mujtahids by the
British authorities in Mesopotamia, meetings have been held lately in Tehran
by leading mullahs. Leading public men are also at one with the mullahs
on this subject and are carrying on discussions with the British Minister.

It contains numbered periodical (mainly weekly) reports relating to Persia [Iran], initially each called an 'Intelligence Summary' and later called a 'Meshed Intelligence Diary'. The reports cover the period of the week ending 1 January 1921 to the period ending 1 January 1923. They are initially issued by the British Military Mission, Meshed [Mashhad, also known as Mashad or Meshad], and later by the Military Attaché, Meshed. The intelligence summaries, and diaries, relate to political, foreign, military and diplomatic affairs in the locality and the neighbouring regions and are variously arranged under (chiefly) the following headings: 'Khorasan and North-East Persia'; 'Herat and Afghanistan'; 'Russian Turkistan'; 'Khorasan'; 'Cis-Frontier'; 'Trans-Frontier'; 'Afghanistan'; 'Bolshevik Garrisons'; 'Local'; 'Transcaspia'; 'Bokhara'; 'Tashkent'; 'Central Russia'; 'Khiva'; 'Ferghana'; 'General'; and 'Samarkand'. The summaries often include appendices which are usually extracts of local and national newspapers published in the regions and countries of interest, including Nabat , Rosta , Izvestia , Ittifaq-i-Islam , Bednota, Prolitarii , Sharq-i-Iran, and Pravda . Other appendices contain details of Bolshevik Garrisons in the region.
