Copy of a letter from HM Chargé d’Affaires to Persia [Iran], Henry Willock, in Tehran, to Dr John McNeill of 5 June 1825. The letter serves as testimony to the good conduct of Dr McNeill during his services as Acting Secretary to HM Mission to Persia, on account of Dr McNeill’s imminent departure to serve as physician to the mission of the East India Company Envoy to Persia, Lieutenant-Colonel John Macdonald Kinneir (referred to as Colonel Macdonald in this item).
This document was originally enclosed in Willock’s letter to the Secret Committee Pre-1784, the Committee responsible for protecting East India Company shipping. Post-1784, its main role was to transmit communications between the Board of Control and the Company's Indian governments on matters requiring secrecy. of the East India Company of 24 June 1825 (IOR/L/PS/9/70/18).
