Letter from HM Chargé d’Affaires to Persia [Iran], Henry Willock, in Koordan [Kordan or Kurdan], to the Secret Committee Pre-1784, the Committee responsible for protecting East India Company shipping. Post-1784, its main role was to transmit communications between the Board of Control and the Company's Indian governments on matters requiring secrecy. of the East India Company, of 3 July 1825, which was received on 12 September 1825. The letter originally enclosed a copy of a dispatch from the Chief Secretary to the Supreme Government of India, George Swinton, to Willock of 18 March 1825, announcing the continued postponement of the mission of the East India Company Envoy to Persia, Lieutenant-Colonel John Macdonald Kinneir (referred to as Colonel Macdonald in this item), and copies of correspondence between Swinton and Macdonald Kinneir which were enclosed in Swinton’s letter (now catalogued respectively as IOR/L/PS/9/70/21, 22 and 23). Also originally enclosed was a copy of Willock’s reply to Swinton’s letter (now catalogued as IOR/L/PS/9/70/24).
