A summary of the terms of the peace treaty [Treaty of Turkamanchay] between Russia and Persia [Iran].
The terms cover:
- Arrangements for the evacuation of the Khanate of Talyche [Talysh] by Persia
- Arrangements for the payment of an indemnity by Persia to Russia, with the province of Adzerbaidjane [Azerbaijan], excluding Ardebil [Ardabil], remaining under Russian occupation until the full payment of the indemnity
- Arrangements for the gradual withdrawal of Russian troops from Adzerbaidjane in tandem with payments of instalments of the indemnity by Persia.
This document was originally enclosed, numbered 1, in the letter of the East India Company Envoy to Persia, Lieutenant-Colonel John Macdonald Kinneir, to the Secret Committee Pre-1784, the Committee responsible for protecting East India Company shipping. Post-1784, its main role was to transmit communications between the Board of Control and the Company's Indian governments on matters requiring secrecy. of the East India Company of 16 March 1828 (IOR/L/PS/9/71/201).
