This item consists of copies of correspondence and minutes cited in, or enclosed with, a military letter from the Government of Madras From 1684-1858, the East India Company’s administration in the city of Madras [Chennai] and southern India. From 1858-1947, a subdivision of the British Raj. [Chennai].
The correspondents are Major General Sir John Malcolm; the Government of Madras From 1684-1858, the East India Company’s administration in the city of Madras [Chennai] and southern India. From 1858-1947, a subdivision of the British Raj. ; and Thomas Henry Somerset Conway, Adjutant General of the Madras Army.
The item concerns Malcolm’s application for permission to return to Europe for the recovery of his health. It contains copies of medical certificates supporting Malcolm’s application, and a General Order issued by the Government of Madras From 1684-1858, the East India Company’s administration in the city of Madras [Chennai] and southern India. From 1858-1947, a subdivision of the British Raj. acknowledging his services.
