Rectifications of the frontier.
The Treaty of Sevres fixes the frontier as the
"northern boundary of the vilayet of Mosul, modified,
however, so as to pass south of Amadia". T.^e Colonial
Office regard it as very essential that the boundary
should pass north and not south yf. Amadia. Tne exact
history of the provision in the Treaty is obscure, but
at Amadia we have planted out a number of the Assyrian
Christians who were previously refugees dependent on
charitable assistance further south. The Colonial.
Office would like to include within Iraq not only Amadia
but also the Assyrian tribal pasturage lying to the
north of it, and this arrangement would bring these trices
wholly within our frontier and prevent much tribal unrest
which may otherwise be occasioned. The tribal country
to the north is not, however, regarded as so essential
