Content

This item comprisers copies of enclosures to a despatch from the Governor-General of India, Allahabad, Secret Department, to the East India Company Secret Committee Pre-1784, the Committee responsible for protecting East India Company shipping. Post-1784, its main role was to transmit communications between the Board of Control and the Company's Indian governments on matters requiring secrecy. , Number 31 of 1842, dated 17 August 1842. The enclosures are numbered 3-8 and are dated 12 July-10 August 1842.

The enclosures relate to political and military affairs in the Punjab.

The principal correspondents are: R N C Hamilton, Secretary to the Government of the North West Provinces; Thomas Herbert Maddock, the Secretary to the Government of India with the Governor-General; and G A Bushby, the Officiating Secretary to the Government of India.
